PRESIDENT’S CORNER

President’s Corner,

Hello all!  It is hard to believe that our Nashville Reunion is over…it was such a long time in coming. Nashville treated us well, and we all enjoyed the sights and food.  I hope and pray that all returned home safely, and remain healthy and safe.   Each Reunion has its own surprises.  This year’s was no different!

We were ‘gifted’ with the presence of two young women who really added to our fun and alleviated some of our toil.  Gary Barringer would be so proud of his daughter and granddaughter and of their tender care of Brenda and all of us.  Margaret Shute and Mary Beth DeVos are a delight and they have joined the Association, so we hope to see them again and again.

For the first time in many years, our Chaplain, Ron Reid and his wife, Diane, were not able to join us for a Reunion.  We missed them terribly.  Ron has turned over the reins for the Chaplainship to Ron Kruse.  Ron generously accepted stepping into the ‘Big shoes’ that Ron left.   We can never thank Ron and Diane enough for the many moving and reverent Memorials that they planned and executed over the years.  We have every confidence that Ron Kruse will maintain the high standards of the Reids.

We also had the tremendous pleasure and honor to meet two new Members and their lovely wives

Steve & Estelle Nadel, and Frank & Bonnie Plankey.  Steve served a few years on our great ship and actually escorted it from Vietnam back to the US.  Frank was a chemist on the ship and went on to become a Chemistry Professor at the University of Pittsburgh.  Both of these men had wonderful stories about their time overseas.  Our time with them in the Hospitality Room was lively, full of laughter, and the forging of new friendships.

Speaking of Pittsburgh, that is the destination of our 2022 Reunion.  I am humbled by the trust that you placed in me to host our next Reunion in my hometown.  I know that you will find that Pittsburgh is a gem, full of so much to see and experience.  I already have so many ideas to make the 2022 memorable.  I will share some details in the next edition of our newsletter.

Until then, I’ll visit you on Facebook:  USNS Corpus Christi Bay Alliance Page

and on the Web at  http://USSAlbemarle-USNSCorpusChristiBay.org
